  • Carter Brown provide experts including psychologists, psychiatrists, paediatricians and independent social workers to the legal profession, across England and Wales. They provide a full referral service. As well recommending the right expert witness based upon the facts of the case, they also ensure that each instruction has a dedicated Case Handler who looks after the logistics of the assessment and the report, and once the report is complete, they have a quality assurance team who check the report. They also provide SRA/BSB accredited CPD courses for solicitors, barristers and those working with families.

  • DirectoryofMediators.com is a local and global directory of mediators. The directory includes mediators in Commercial, Family, Real Estate, Workplace, Divorce, Insurance and many other categories. There is a membership system in place and members can add or develop their entries as they wish.

  • ExpertSearch.co.uk provides the largest online register of UK expert witnesses, containing over 4,500 profiles, an online database (searchable by name, town, county, region, qualification and/or area of expertise) a unique email directory containing the email addresses of over 3,000 UK expert witnesses and over 1,600 links to UK expert witness home pages (i.e. where the expert witnesses have their own web sites). The directory contains photographs and location maps and is updated twice weekly throughout the year.

  • Expert Witness established in 1996, publish and distribute The Expert Witness Directory; a completely free service to the legal, insurance and media professions available in four formats:
    1. A4 Hard Copy Directory
    2. Real time updateable CD-ROM, which also updates from the website
    3. This Website
    4. Telephone service "SearchLine" which sources Expert Witnesses from any discipline within 6 working hours.
    There are separate annual directories in book form covering the UK, Ireland, Scotland, Australia & New Zealand; all of these are included on the CD-ROM and Website.

  • Legal Hub is the home of Sweet & Maxwell's Expert Witness Directory. There are 2,500 experts listed in the Directory which can also be searched by name, region or specialisation. It says on the site that all expert witnesses have been vetted and have agreed to abide by a strict Code of Practice and Terms and Conditions.

  • Legal Experts UK offer a wide range of Expert Witnesses and Legal Experts in many categories of expertise. Experts and Expert Witnesses are listed under their relevant fields of expertise which is indexed alphabetically (expert lists).

  • NEWA (National Expert Witness Agency) is a database of expert witnesses in many fields, designed for lawyers and other professionals. This is an actively marketed database - the company emails solicitors on a regular basis to promote the expert witnesses. Annual membership packages (for the expert witnesses) start from £120 and include marketing ideas and resources for them.

  • ORC Experts provides the original online expert advisory service established in 1984. Over that time ORC Experts has compiled a network of over 10,000 experts in 55 countries. ORC Experts is a subsidiary of ORC International, a global provider of Business Information, Customer Insight and Marketing Solutions for businesses large and small with over 40 years of experience and success. Recognized experts in their fields may create a free profile at experts.intota.com.

  • UK Register of Expert Witnesses from JS Publications. First published in 1988, this is the longest established independent listing of vetted independent witnesses, all of whom have been recommended by previously instructing solicitors. The full Register of some 3,200 experts is available online as a fully searchable Web Register, which is updated on a regular basis, and there are some 20,000 terms of reference which can be selected to aid in a detailed search. The search facility is free to use, though you will need to register a password in order to do so, and there are links to experts own web sites. There is also information about how to use expert witnesses and how to become one. The company also provides an expert witness search engine. You do not need to log in to try it out. Just put a key word in the left hand space and the system suggests further words to go with it, to refine the search, and also tells you how many experts are in each category. For "real" use, experts can join the Register from £120 pa, whilst lawyers can subscribe for £110 pa.

  • WitnessDirectory.com, established over 15 years ago, offers lawyers a free source of expert witnesses. The directory reconciles lawyers from around the world with expert witnesses from the UK, US and Australia. Hundreds of visitors a day peruse the directory from as many as 40 countries.

  • X-Pro is designed and maintained by practising UK barristers. Experts have access to their own full page profile allowing instantaneous updates, so the details are always current. Profiles feature postcode and qualification hyperlinks and in many cases an audio 'soundbite', recorded by the experts themselves. There is also a 'Helpdesk' facility which offers assistance for lawyers in choosing an expert. X-Pro is the brainchild of Andrew C David, an experienced barrister of 20 years' call, and a small group of colleagues.

  • British Psychological Society provides a directory with profiles of around 700 UK-based psychologists who offer their services in the expert witness field'

  • Detectives UK provides a large number of investigators, grouped by region.

  • Expert QS provides expert witness services to the construction industry, including quantity surveyors. They work with solicitors, lawyers, developers, house builders, land owners, construction professionals and planning professionals, together with private and commercial parties, on a wide range of construction cost and quantum disputes. The company is operated by director Gary A Bushell.

  • inJur originally commenced trading as Medical Experts Online in 2005 and has the largest database of medico legal experts across the UK with nearly 10,000 individual listings. The database can be filtered by postcode, specialism and languages. This is a medico-legal instruction portal which enables firms to run their PI, Clinical Negligence and NIHL cases through an SRA and LASPO compliant system and to work directly with experts. It can also provide firms with free screening on clinical negligence and NIHL cases and provide a service for diagnostics and treatment.

    A few organisations based mainly in the USA....

  • ALMexperts.com, owned by American Lawyer Media, contains over 15,000 experts and consultants in the USA. The data based can be searched by keyword or by category and can also be browsed by category. Full details of all experts are given and the service is free to the user.

  • Expert Pages describes itself as the original and leading Internet directory of expert witnesses and consultants. According to the Lawyers Weekly, "Expert Pages is the best free directory . . . . the largest number of experts in the widest variety of areas and geographic locations."

  • Expert Witness Network. As it says about itself.... The Expert Witness Network is an On-Line service formerly known as the Legal Research Network (LERN). The mission of the Expert Witness Network is to link attorneys and expert witnesses via the World Wide Web by using online technology to reduce the time and costs associated with locating the best expert for a case.

  • eWitness.com is a community for experts to create profiles for attorneys and insurance companies to locate expert witnesses, legal consultants, and litigation support specialists. Thre are 5,000 categories and the entries include Email & Websites and also where appropriate, photos, audio & video clips.

  • JurisPro is a free online directory of expert witnesses. You can search for an expert witness by name or area of expertise. You may view the expert's qualifications, read their articles, see their photo, and contact the expert directly. JurisPro is the only expert witness directory where you can hear the expert witness, and download their actual CV.

  • Law Info can be used to locate attorneys, expert witnesses, and other legal information of use to members of the public.

  • Round Table Group, part of the Thomson Reuters group, is an expert services firm providing access to over 65,000 top academic and industry experts who serve as consultants and expert witnesses. The services for attorneys include expert consultation and research support to litigating, immigration, intellectual property attorneys, and other legal professionals in need of expertise. RTG can support every stage of the litigation process with customized teams of university faculty and qualified research associates who possess a deep understanding of attorney needs. There is also now a London office in Berkeley Square.

  • The Expert Institute is a New York based expert witness referral service that connects lawyers with experts for a one-time flat referral fee. The company was established in 2010 with the initial intention of designing a software platform to aggregate and filter publicly available professional information on the web to build a "living" record of expert witnesses, resulting in a network of nearly 200,000 experts. They provide information in every area of practice, and operate in the US, Canada, and the United Kingdom.
